  7. Q: MODCHARTS? What's that?
  8. A: MODCHARTS is a compilation of the 100 most favourite MODs.
  9.    This Top100 appears each month and is available all around the world.
  10.    All you need is a computer to play these songs (normally through a
  11.    so-called "MOD-Player").
  12.    The following players are recommended:
  13.    for PC:    Dual Module Player 3.1, Inertia Player 1.20, Morgul Player 1.0
  14.    for Amiga: SmartPlay 3.1, DeliTracker 2.01
  15.    for Mac:   SoundTrecker 2.0, Player Pro
  16.    for Apple: Instant Access, Shellplay, MODZap, soniqTracker, Beatbox
  17.    for Acorn 32bit (Archimedes): Queue the music QTM 1.00
  18.    for Atari: Paula 2.3, Desktracker 1.10   
  19.    Linux:     GMod 1.3
  20.    Please tell me more about "your" MODplayer. I want to give you a
  21.    "reference player" for each machine in the next edition.

  23. Q: How does it work?
  24. A: You (the "voter") will download the MODs from your nearest server or BBS.
  25.    If you are a real MOD-Fan, you probably have most of the MODs at home :-)
  26.    You will listen to these MODs and decide which is your favourite song.
  27.    The more user vote for a special MOD, the higher it will raise in the Top100.
  28.    All MODs will stay in the Top100 until they drop out (i.e. become #101 or so)
  29.    If you have a favourite MOD which is not in thr current Top100, then you can
  30.    propose it as newcomer in the vote-sheet (see below for details).
  31.    I will analyze all incoming votes and calculate the new Top100.
  32.    You see, it's working like a radio Top100. :-)
  33.    Please read the section "QUICKSTART" for further information.

  35. Q: O.K. There is the directory modcharts on the server. But there is not the
  36.    complete Top100 but only a few MODs. Where is the rest?
  37. A: The MOD-directories on AMINET are under reorganization. You may not find
  38.    all MODs of the current edition of the Top100. In this case, you may
  39.    check ftp.uni-muenster.de /pub/sounds/modcharts/...  it's all there.

  41. Q: So how can other MODs enter the charts?
  42. A: Via the "newcomer section". If you are having a favourite MOD and this MOD
  43.    is not in the current TOP100, then you can propose it as "newcomer".
  44.    There is a section in the vote-sheet called "MODs that I would like to hear
  45.    next month". Please put your suggestions there. You may propose more songs,
  46.    but don't send me any lists with 100+ entries, o.k.? :-)
  47.    Please give me the server and path of your proposed MOD as well.
  48.    The more voters propose a special MOD, the higher this MOD will raise in
  49.    the next month's edition of the MODCHARTS.

  51. Q: When and where does the new chart appear and how much time do I have to vote?
  52. A: The new MODCHART edition usually appears in the first week of the month.
  53.    (please read the textfile "modsites.english" to find your nearest server/BBS).
  54.    The textfiles (the TOP100, the FAQ and the site list) are also posted to
  55.    some Nets (FIDO, Z, ComLink, Convoy, LocalNet,...) and twice a month to
  56.    the NewsNet. Current newsgroups are

  59.    - comp.sys.amiga.audio
  60.    - comp.sys.ibm.pc.soundcard.music
  61.    - de.alt.binaries.sounds.d

  66.    Please do not post your vote to the NewsNet!!! Send it directly to me!
  67.    Deadline for your vote is the last day of the current month. The deadline
  68.    is also given in each month's edition of MODCHARTS.
  69.    Just cut off the "vote-sheet" from the text of the current MODCHART edition,
  70.    fill it out and send it back to me via e-mail. Please note that it may take
  71.    more than one day for your vote to get here, so please mail it soon enough.
  72.    Else your vote will be nuked by the deadline :-).

  74. QUICKSTART:
  75. 1) Read the file "modsites.english" to determine your nearest MODCHARTS SITE
  76. 2) Log in on that site (anonymous-ftp-server or BBS)
  77. 3) Download all textfiles. They will be in english and german language
  78.    Normally, the text are packed in a file called
  79.    "mchart_mar95e.lha" (english version) and/or
  80.    "mchart_mar95d.lha" (german version)
  81.    The current chartfile, the sitelist and this FAQ are in this package.
  82. 4) Download the MODs that you don't have already. TOP100 newcomers are marked
  83.    with "NEW ENTRY" in the chartfile "charts03.english"
  84. 5) Send your vote-sheet back to me (email) or to your BBS
